Believing and Seeing

Ash-wood 'limed' with titanium white (an offcut from the workshop of a furniture making friend of Wenhams.)

This is one of those jokey quotations which, on consideration, is not as trivial as it may seem at first. It was said by the English poet Ralph Hodgson (1871-1962), apparently as an ironic quip about ESP (extra-sensory perception). However , if one thinks about it, it can be seen as commenting on a great many more 'things', including most if not all of the human virtues. To a hard-line cynic, no act is truly selfless, and any affection is seen as motivated by self-interest. So, while hoping to retain an element of amusement, the words have been treated quite seriously, incidentally using a newly-designed alphabet.
