The UK is home to 25 species out of the 275 different species of bee in the world. Already we have lost two species of bee, which serve as a reminder of the vulnerability of other species. As more and more land is being converted for food production, we see fewer and fewer wild flowers, which sustain the bees. Ironically, bumblebees are extremely useful to agriculture as they are excellent pollinators and can help many commercial crops. Without them our landscapes could change dramatically and become a whole lot harder to maintain.
