It is now recognised that there are four species of giraffe; Masai, Reticulated, Southern and Northern. All having subspecies within these groups. As an iconic image of Africa, we would have thought that we would know a lot about the habits of the giraffe, however this is not the case. Threats to the giraffe include competition for food and water resources, habitat destruction and poaching, amongst other factors.
