Iga Vase
Black clay with lichen glaze.
Iga ware, whilst not dissimilar to the pots made in neighbouring Shigaraki – they share natural ash glazing and pitted clay bodies - does have its own characteristics. As well as being harder & heavier than Shigaraki ware, this high fired stoneware, often with scorch marks known as Koge and vitrified glass glazes made by the ash in the kiln known as Bidoro also has little ‘ears’ as handles.
