Signed verso hand carved lettering and image on marine ply driftwood from Pembrokeshire. Hand painted with acrylic paint to create a background image and highlight the letters.
The bird shapes, which suggested this quotation, were probably carved by an angle-grinder cutting off bolt heads.

The words are translated from an anonymous tenth-century Japanese poem (Kokinshu XV 761) by Thomas McAuley.
