Poseidon No. 1
Monogrammed letter carving on spruce driftwood (board from a pallet) from the Conwy estuary with acrylic paint.
The Greek is the name Poseidon, God of the sea; the English is from the poem Seaside by Rupert Brooke (1887-1915).
The wood is very coarse and was not really suitable for carving, but is given interest by the rusty nail holes and deeply eroded grain which show much of its history. The grain pattern has been emphasized by its time in the sea, wire-brushing and rubbed-back colour.
