Untitled
From A Day Book by Robert Creeley.
Signed. Edition of 200.
Etching and photo-etching
'A ghostly face, familiar only from another print in the series, is hemmed in the lower righthand corner. To the left, Kitaj has reproduced an aerial photograph of a worksite; above is a violently painted wall in Francis Bacon-black and pink, crushing the composition. The whole is reminiscent of Kitaj’s recollection of the bureaucratic environment into which he had been thrown, during the height of public distaste for the Vietnam War of which Kitaj was a prominent dissenter.' Max Waterhouse, Goldmark Autumn 2022.
This suite was made in direct collaboration with the poet Robert Creeley and 'each print relates to a small block of text from Creeley's long prose poem, which recounts events of a single day interjected with disquieting private musings.' Jennifer Ramkalawon, Kitaj Prints, 2013.
