Monogrammed letter carving on plywood.

In 1991 Martin saw this quotation carved in stone by Ralph Beyer, who carved the large inscriptions in Coventry Cathedral. The carving was masterly, but rather conventional and very polite. He was reminded of it in 2021 by a book on Beyer's inscriptions and decided to try a version with rather more shatter and fury: more Basie than Beethoven.

The words are a translation of a line from a poem by Rainer MAria Rilke (1875 - 1926).
