Wall Piece
Punch'ong. The Sky
Lee decorates his wall pieces with the traditional Korean Punch'ŏng. A dark stoneware body is coated with white slip & decorated using various methods. This stunning wall piece first had a rough coat of white slip ladled over it, whilst still wet Lee used his hands to spread the slip and tools to incise the slip in expressive marks. Sometimes different coloured slips are flicked over the white surface, in a Jackson Pollack like way. A stiff bristled brush may be used to scratch into the semi dry surface of the pot. Forest, waterfall, mountains - nature is very much in evidence in Lee's beautiful pots.
His work is in public collections worldwide, including the V&A and the British Museum in the UK.
